Madhwa Jana...

This category of Madhwa Jana is exclusively for discussions about Madhwa Matha and people following it. Today we will discuss about Naga Chathurthi Pooja done once in an year to get blessings from Naga Raja... These pictures were taken during last pooja at my home..

Naga Chathurthi is one of the main poojas done in Hindu families, to worship The Snake God (Naga Raja/Shri Aadi Sesha) and get his blessings. Naga Chaturthi falls on the 4th day in the bright fortnight (after amavasa) of the auspicious "Sravana Masa" followed by Garuda Panchami on the next day. Serpent God Sri Aadi Sesha is the presiding Deity for Panchami thithi.

It is a festival cum pooja celebrated every year in honour of Snakes. It is the day on which Lord Brahma gave a boon to the Serpents that they would be adored and respected by human beings on the Earth. It was on this day of Garuda Panchami that King Janamejaya stopped his Sarpa Yaga and a new lease of life was given to the Serpents.
